I'm the Vampire That Why Broken Heart Oklahoma Book 1 Michele Bardsley 9780451219374 Books

I loved this book, but now I feel like I need to read the other books in the series, and I have so many other books on my kindle piling up. That's how much I liked this. Ugh! The character of Jessica was so strong and incredibly funny. Patrick was hot and I fell in love with him right away. All the characters were written well. The storyline was intense, interesting, funny at times, and unpredictable. Everything about it was enjoyable and the romance was perfect. It was steamy without being the main part of the story. I have to be careful not to do spoilers. The vampire world in this was different than most with their binding rules. But I still liked it and it made the story different from a lot if the others series I love. Now, I just have to decide if I have enough control to wait until I get through my others books sitting impatiently on my kindle before I dig into the next books in this series, or if I'll break down and go for the next book in this series. Decisions.

I'm the Vampire That Why Broken Heart Oklahoma Book 1 Michele Bardsley 9780451219374 Books Reviews

Well, what an unexpected surprise! I'm the Vampire, That's Why sounded interesting, and after having it on my GR list for a while, I decided to finally give it a go. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not only did it provide me with a wonderful romance, it was extremely entertaining. I guess I will be reading the second one titled Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire. I'll do this probably next month as I have a few that need tending.

If you are looking for a lighthearted read between reads, or are just waiting for a book to be released and you're not sure in which direction to go, then this one will fill the gap nicely. Don't expect huge amounts of suspense, or too much angst in this book although there is a fair amount. This is more humour than anything else. It is however, as I've just mentioned, very entertaining indeed. Okay, so one or two things somewhere or another didn't make sense to me, but heck this wasn't something that was going to stop me reading the book or make me huff and puff with annoyance. It was good, it made me laugh and that's what counts.

Jessica is like many of us are, a normal mom. Except that she's now single. Her loving husband left her for a much younger 'model' - his secretary - and made her pregnant. Before Jessica could mete out her 'revenge', he died. How very annoying. One night while taking out the trash, again, as her son 'forgot' as usual, she's attacked and wakes up sucking on a naked male's thigh. Okaaaay. His also chained, for his and her own good. His name Patrick (Padriag), he's Irish and he's 4 000 years old. This is beyond ancient. But, he's Irish, gorgeous, sweet, funny and well, awesome. Jessica wears a ring passed down to her, which had originally been his - eons ago. There's obviously an explanation for this, but one I won't get into here. Needless to say, she's his long awaited mate.

The premise of this story obviously revolves around their eventual union with mishaps thrown into the mix including a nasty jealous ex of Patrick's. Broken Heart is the town Jessica lives in, and it's the town Patrick and his parakind have chosen to make their home. They are hoping that they've managed to secure a fairly safe place away from yet another group who are called the Wraiths. Patrick has a twin brother, Lor, who has been poisoned with the 'Taint'. Lor is the one who sucked Jessica dry, including another ten people. Jessica is shocked to find she wasn't the only one. She is stumped though, when Charlene (the husband stealer) is one of them, too. A cure needs to be found for Lor, before something really horrible goes wrong. Meanwhile, more people have been found dead. Is it Lor? Or someone else with an ulterior motive.

We meet Patrick's father, the creator of their kind who turns out to be a kid at heart. He's really lovable. Who wouldn't want a grandfather like him. My hand's up. I would!

There is actually quite a bit going on in this story, as we must not forget Jessica's kids. Her attempt at an explanation scares her youngest daughter, but makes her son laugh out loud although he's weary at the same time. Would you believe your mom if she told you she was a vampire? I guess not.

I'm sure the attraction between Patrick and Jessica would be classed as insta-love, and it kind of is, but we are talking vampires and mating. We all know how it goes. I must say, though, that it takes a long while before Jessica makes up her mind if she wants to be bound to Patrick or not. It eventually hits her that she loves him, but she's still hesitant. Because I'm The Vampire, That's Why has the HEA we all want, and that always sits well with me.

I can't say this book wowed me to the point of goosebumps, but I can say that it was definitely worth my time, and it did provide me with some 'awww' moments.. If a book makes me feel good and happy that I read it, it's worth every single second. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was mine. I look forward to the next one.
I enjoyed this book and series so far, I am at book 5. They all have humor and nice plot. Book 3 was good, but it seemed rushed. Each book can be read standalone, but it is better to read them in order, so that you understand who the characters are. Otherwise you cannot get as immersed in the story and it can get confusing. I feel that the books are overpriced, but I have not been disappointed in any of the books, so I guess that counts for something. Try this book, and enjoy the laughter.
This is a re-read. I read it the first time in January and now again in October.

So, the first time I read it I didnt like Jessica...not so much. Although I still find her indecisive about Patrick until the last freaking minute. I liked her this time. I think Michele did some improvements because I didnt find the mistakes this time that I noticed when I first read it. I didnt feel any plot holes or missing information that I did last time either. I found Patrick just as hot and endearing as well as the other characters. I even laughed this time around as well. Although no sexy times its alright because we do get a lot of teasing. Dont get me wrong its a tad disappointing but I'm not as upset over it as I seem to be when I first read it. Ha. I'll still keep my original review under this one so y'all can see the difference in my opinion. Sometimes when we do reviews and we go back months or even a year and read it your like wait...I said that? I am bumping my rating by 1 star. Yes again Jessica is to blame and I think there could have been a better ending with Jessica and Patrick. Otherwise, I had no issues with it this time around.

ORIGINAL REVIEW
What to say.....well I liked it but not parts. I'll start by saying although I liked it...it wasn't written well. So, this is the first book in the series and was written 10 years ago. I had sooo much trouble keeping that in mind. Although its not a 4 or 5 star for me don't let that discourage you from reading the book. I plan on continuing because honestly the ideas are great and it was funny. Some of the details are a bit of a mess. Just small little things but enough that its noticeable and can confuse the reader. I really liked all the characters we met. My biggest issue was Jessica. She was funny but really annoyingly irritating. Author wrote her to be horribly indecisive. She knows she is Patrick's mate and his soulmate but she refuses to bind with him. She even goes as far as claiming him publicly! At first I was understanding because of everything she's gone through and being turned and all the emotional baggage. Then I'm like ugh. Patrick and Jessica kiss, make-out, and feed from each other but she refuses the binding. Her excuse is her kids but its really because she's freaked at watching her kids grow old and die AND spending 100 years with someone who could potentially do the same thing Rich did to her. Honestly I do feel for her because she was cheated on. Her kids are fine with her being a vampire. She used her kids as an excuse for a lot of things. I get she was dealing with a lot of stuff with her ex dead husband but man that woman admits to everything one moment and then changes her mind the next. Its ping pong! She is like that through the whole book! It really was annoying and honestly my rating had a lot to do with Jessica being such a cringe worthy heroine. Really wanted to reach in and smack her upside the head. Then finally at the end when she FINALLY agrees to the binding we dont even get to enjoy the sexy times! What!? LOL ugh whatever. Alright I am over it. I did enjoy the book as a whole and had really good parts in it. I'll be reading book 2 soon and hopefully it gets better. If I went with ratings I've read then it does get better.
