Having grown up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, I enjoyed how Drake made the setting come alive. For example, she describes a stone church, black with steel mill soot that if sandblasted away would leave etchings that resembled black lace.

JUST BETWEEN US is the kind of book that would play out fabulously on the big screen. I look forward to reading Drake’s other works.

Enjoyable read. I did like this book but I have to admit that it is a little unbelievable. But still worth the read.
Entertaining but unrealistic.
For most of this book, although bizarre, I was at the edge of my seat. I could not put it down until I finished reading it. It was, as they say, filled with twists, turns and surprises. What I was disappointed with in this book was the ending. Although the author kept me interested throughout most of the book, the end was rushed and disappointing, as if she was trying to reach a deadline.
It dwelled for too long between the start of the friendship and the unraveling of the climax and it was just boring and with long conversations to fill in the story. It was also somewhat predictable. Did not like it at all.
Just Between Us captivated me because the plot just wouldn't let go but kept going with twists and turns, assumptions and guesses. Rebecca Drake is a fine artist who takes the mundane to scary in suburban women/wives/mothers who engage in murder, cover-up, and deflection. Bravo!
This book was interesting since I grew up in Edgeworth/Sewickley. The names of the streets, the cemetery where my parents are buried, the windy road to Sewickley Heights were all so familiar. I think the coffee shop it referred to was what we called Joe's in high school and we would stop every day after school on the way home for cherry coke!
The story itself was a little unusual, but entertaining as well.
I just could not enjoy this book. I wasn't fond of any of the characters. Then when the crisis came, I thought they acted stupidly. It was close to the middle of the book and I just closed it for good. I hate to waste the money but time is too short to read a book whose characters annoy me. The writing, itself, was good.
