There was magic all around, Intrigue, suspense, mild violence and action in this book. The story is suitable to all ages and it had good and enigmatic and interesting story line. Kept me interested all the time reading eagerly until the end. The heroine, Sunaya Baine, was a shifter, half mage and an Enforcer. She had hidden her mage because hybrids were not accepted in the Mage’s word. Then shifters were poisoned and Sunaya wanted to discover the murderers and the drug traffic. Matters didn’t unfold as she expected and soon she was the object of the Mage’s word hate. Sunaya had a strong, disrespectful character used to actions instead of thinking about consequences. Her growing up had been hard without loved ones and. in a world where she was considered an abomination. I think it had hardened her and her sense of justice because she had to survive at all cost. Like these female characters that fight as an equal to the males. The male characters, Lord Iannis and Fenris, were good mysterious, interesting and all the time I was keeping a close eye on them expecting some love triangle with Sunaya. I was so intrigued with these two. Like the stories that keep me thinking about what’s going on and what is going to happen. The intrigue and action motivates me and this book had lots of those elements and it was good written. I’m eagerly waiting for the next book.

Very promising first book in a series! Enough snark and repartee to be entertaining without verging into too much. Good character development and interesting premise. I'll definitely buy the next in the series.
Honestly this series looks to have great promise. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I discovered this author by accident and decided to try it, I was actually expecting to be disapointed by this book.
But I really liked it, it's a bit slow to pick up in the beginning and there are a few slow spots in the story, but overall the novel is fast-paced.
The heroine is 24 according to the book but she seemed younger to me.
A few overused plots heroine with a big mouth, clueless leader who put his trust in the wrong people...
The worldbuilding is OK although there's still a lot missing (where's the magic coming from, how does this city-state country work...)

I liked that the heroine was flawed and owed up to her mistakes, that she fought with her friends and felt bad about it... that there isn't the old and tried love triangle. It's a fresh view on shifters, mages, witches.

I do understand the reviewer who says the storyline is unfinished. The bookplot (the silver murders) are solved but the series plot (the big bad guy, the drugs, Fenris...) are left unfinished and I'd really would like to read the next book now.
I liked it so much I've already pre-ordered the next book. Great writing, characters, plot.
Every now and then I get a book I can totally immerse myself in, the plot, character and the surroundings the story is set in. This with the occasional chuckle at some antics described made it an enjoyable read. Yes finished Book 2 and now looking forward to Book 3. Well done Jasmine Walt.
Fantastic start to a series of books that could equal Ilona Andrews. I was so pleased that I found this little gem whilst trolling for books on a cold, rainy day. Well done to the author, I am certainly interested in any future publications.
I really wanted to like this book. I started it already biased in its favour, due to other reviews comparing this series to my favourite authors such as Ilona Andrews and Patricia Briggs. The premise and the world building are nice enough, but the characters are just flat. The main heroine sounds like a particularly bratty and entitled teenager, not at all a spunky young woman the author probably aimed for. The relationships are not believable, the plot does not make a lot of sense, and the writing style itself does not make up for these shortcomings. I gave it 3 stars, because it is not cringe-worthy by any means, but I won't be continuing with this series or this author, sorry
