Everyone seems to be raving about this book. I've given it some thought since I finished it, and I did like it....but not a lot. I certainly didn't love it. The main character, journalist Mercer Hennessey, was almost as annoying as Ashlyn, the accused murderess whose trial she is following as she writes a book about it. The entirety of Part I follows the trial and Mercer's musings as she writes the fictionalized book. Without resorting to spoilers, Part II brings Mercer and Ashlyn together and I found myself reading quickly and even skipping portions because, while they were certainly annoying separately, they were REALLY annoying together. If this is the definition of a psychological thriller, spare me from any more of them! I did finally make it to the end, which was only partially satisfying after all. For me, the bigger question was never even answered. It's not a cliffhanger, though, because there will not be another book to tie up the (big) dangling loose end. How frustrating is THAT?? I doi have to say that Hank Phillipi Ryan is good at her craft. The book was meticulously plotted and the characters were carefully drawn. It's just that I did't like them. By the end, I could have killed them both myself.

Trust me, I am a big fan of Miss Ryan and have read all of her books. I was so hoping this would be a continuation of the same style. However, that did not happen. I felt like I was reading all about the Casey Anthony trial all over again. I watched everyday of that trial and it did not end with justice in my mind for little Caylee Anthony. It was not a popular decision and there was a lot of hatred towards Casey. So, why rehash an unpopular trial and unpopular defendant again? I really saw no point to this book. It was around the 65% of the book that it even sparked a little interest for me. I would not call this book a suspenseful thriller at all. I was definitely hoping it would get better but it didn't. I gave it 3 stars because I have great respect for Miss Ryan's past books, which were all 5 stars in my opinion.

Casey and Ashlyn’s lives are similar as far as their clubbing and partying. Did she take murder lessons from Casey? Duct tape. Chloroform. Ashlyn Bryant is on trial for first-degree murder. The writing and the storytelling, exposing the truth. Mercer is determined. She uses her keen journalism techniques to allow the subject to believe the story is for their benefit, instead of your own. If Mercer can make it for two more weeks. She will use every trick in the book. However, Ashlyn is a master manipulator. She is a pro at deceiving and possess her own bag of tricks. No one has been in her house for over a year, and now there are only the memories and THIS WOMAN.

At one point, I was unsure where the book was headed when Ashlyn began questioning Mercer about her family’s tragic accident. This portion reminded me of A. R. Torre’s The Ghostwriter (I loved-top books of 2017), another writer with child and husband killed in an accident. However, it took a different turn, I was holding my breath with this part with heart pounding.

BTW Two authors will make the adrenaline pump and heart race. Of course, I read them back to back. I desperately needed a spa day at Eau Spa Palm Beach afterward Pieces of Her (Karin Slaughter) and TRUST ME (Hank Phillippi Ryan).
Ryan explores many thought-provoking themes grief, mother-daughter relationships, ethics in journalism, media sensationalism, and the desperate search for the elusive truth.

Having read and enjoyed Hank’s previous books (The Jane Ryland Series) – TRUST ME goes to a much deeper level. Her best yet! A darker psychological level. She explores all sides of the truth and knocks it "out of the park." Enjoyed the courtroom drama and the details. The best was the banter between the two women. Sizzling and thought-provoking!

Wow...just wow! What a fantastic book. I've been a fan of Hank Phillippi Ryan since I read Prime Time, and love her Jane Ryland books. This is her first stand-alone and she knocks it out of the park! The subject matter is timely and the writing fast paced with twists and turns around every corner...just when you think you know what is happening Hank changes things up. Who do you trust...what do you trust?
Mercer is trying to pull herself out of the darkness after the deaths of her husband and daughter in a tragic car accident when her friend and editor talks her into writing a book about the trial of a young woman...Ashlyn...accused of killing her daughter. Trust me...she's guilty...until she's not and the jury frees her. Now the book Mercer is writing has to change focus...she needs to get Ashlyn's story about what happened. Just when you think you know what happened...you don't. Ashlyn is a master manipulator and Hank masterfully leads us through the maze until the final twist at the end. Trust me...this book is one of the best books of the summer!

The story wasn't a mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat, but rather a tedious, monotony of repetitious days of a grieving reporter following an uninteresting trial.
