When a young woman on holiday ventures into the forest for a day of hiking, she soon finds herself turned around, lost in the dense growth and shadows. Night creeps in, bringing with the darkness subtle sounds of movement around her, the pulsing terror of unseen eyes on her.

There’s something in the woods…

A desperate young man who hopes to be more than just a friend to the woman vows to find her. The situation goes from bad to worse when the officer in charge of the missing woman’s case insists there is a logical explanation for what may be a crucial piece of evidence. Left with no choice, family and friends take to the hostile woods on their own in a hunt for answers. They have no idea of the depth of horrors waiting for them.

As a writer, I’m all too familiar with the insistent voices racing around in an author’s head when a story is in play, and appreciate the long hours of thought, the plotting it takes to spin those voices into a gripping journey. The avid reader in me loves the worlds created by those special talents.

Hunted is storytelling at its finest, written in the earlier style of Stephen King, where events spiral out of control and emotional states deepen so intensely, readers are held hostage long after the last page is turned. Well done, Ms. Coates!

Hunted edition by Darcy Coates Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Kept me glued to my seat for the whole ride. Clever, scary, suspenseful, so many twists and turns. Thanks for always writing such gripping tales! Looking forward to the next.
I love Darcy Coates as an author and had been waiting anxiously for her next book to come out so when I saw this, I didn't even read the description, I just instantly bought it. I tell you this because I may have been a bit biased against this book from the beginning which may have clouded my opinion of it, at least initially, when I discovered that it wasn't to be a ghost story or haunting book which I had come to expect from this author. Instead it was more of a thriller/murder mystery. Which I actually do enjoy reading but just wasn't what I wanted at the time. I was further disappointed when I began reading it. Normally I love this author's writing style but in this book I found the dialogue sophomoric and forced in order to further the plot along instead of flowing naturally like it should. Also I hated all of the characters. One thing I loved about Darcy was her ability to get me hooked on the character almost immediately, not so in this case. Todd was an obnoxious, arrogant stalker (and maybe you weren't supposed to like him, not sure on that), the foursome that goes to the woods felt more like cardboard cutouts instead of flesh and blood, and Carla was equally unlikeable, at least at first. I warmed up to her once I discovered her home life situation and she became more invested in the investigation. I started and stopped this book several times and actually had to force myself to pick it back up and that was only because I finished the book I was currently reading and didn't have a readily accessible alternative. I was sad to realize that I was probably going to start skimming at this point just to get it out of the way and off my list. Fortunately at about page 180 I finally got interested in the story and didn't skim like I had planned on doing other than a chapter or two. There were a few chapters involving Hailey that I felt could have been axed because they added nothing to the story and was only meant to add drama, which it failed at in my opinion. Other than that I did enjoy the rest of the book, but it is still not my favorite from this author and not at the same caliber that I had come to expect from her. So would I recommend this book? Only if you are a die-hard Darcy fan or are curious to see her take on a new genre, otherwise I recommend that you read her other books, which are excellent.
Just as there is steady stream in the cabin in the woods by the lake is it.a monster is.it.a.killer who will survive? movies, some.bad, some quite good of kind, Hunted lies.straight.in the written version of the stream. Teens in peril, who will survive? What or who is the killer? 4 stars.because the novel doesn't. bring anything particularly fresh.to.the.forest. BUT I couldn't put it down. So really 4 1\2 stars. Characters are.close.to being types but not quite in a nice way. Genuine surprises and I.had genuine emotional reactions to events. Darcy made me care. I was also impressed with the details of all the action. Cinematic in the mind. Believable or not I believed it. Thoroughly enjoyable. If you enjoy this genre this a worthy read. Oh and it would make a terrific film.
Can’t believe I only paid a dollar for this book. It was incredibly well written, right up there with the best crime novels by the bestselling authors. I have really enjoyed the ghost stories Darcy has written, but THIS book was plausible, scary as hell, and the characters extremely well developed. Buy this book. You will not be disappointed.
There are so many plot holes and very poor character development. One of the most unbelievable parts is what the entire premise rests on...that someone (actually dozens of people) would go missing in a popular forest and the police and almost everyone else give up searching after only 4 days. There are so many things wrong with this story... The ending was very stupid and not satisfying at all.
I was so surprised by this book. I knew I would probably like it since it contained many of the things I look for in a book...monsters, mysteries and great characters. What I didn't expect was what made this one so great. Most of the time I have an idea of how books will end, but this book kept me guessing. I loved it!
I really liked this book. Easy to read, to follow and it just kept getting better up to the last page. Great characters, last 50% was steady read. The forest setting was scary and well written. Being lost in a forest or wilderness would be bad enough but then add a strange monster, that's recipe for terror.
